AMERICAN DREAM MALL : THE SPECIAL "CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE" MALL
We weren’t expecting it anymore! After years of turnarounds, financial bankruptcies and changes of ownership, the impressive American Dream Meadowlands has finally opened its doors in New Jersey.
And its figures are dizzying: 280,000 sqm, $ 6 billion investment, more than 450 shops and restaurants and the list goes on and on! Developed by the Canadian developer Triple Five, this megamall boasts to be the future of the mall: a place of experiences where retail no longer plays a central role. In this temple of excess, 55% of the tenant mix is dedicated to entertainment versus 45% to retail.
On 25 October and 5 December 2019, the first two phases of the opening of the megamall took place. On this occasion, several places of experience opened: the theme park Nickelodeon Universe with 25 attractions of all kinds, 1 indoor ice rink and the 1st western indoor ski and snowboard resort Big Snow. Other inaugurations will take place during the last 2 opening phases in the course of 2020, including: the water park Dreamworks, 2nd largest in the world, 1 aquarium SeaLife, 1 Legoland, etc.
Great expectations accompany the official inauguration of the centre since the American Dream mall wants to become a reference, the one that will define the format of the mall to come. With an expected turnover of more than $1 billion in the first year, the Triple Five group has bet on the dynamism and wealth of the Tri-State area (Connecticut, New Jersey and New York) to rewrite the declining history of American malls. At MMM, we want to believe in it, but isn’t the best the enemy of the good ? Time will tell !
