THE SMART CART BY SOBEYS & CAPER : THE CANADIAN CHAIN CONSIDERS CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
The Canadian chain Sobeys unveiled its goal for the future : to become a global retail leader by simplifying and modernizing the consumer pathway. The chain indeed considers that is has not changed since a century. That’s why it has decided to join forces with Caper, the smart cart leader, to revolutionize the customer experience. This Smart Cart is tested since October 23rd in a store in Ontario. The result is a smart cart that recognizes items thanks to their weight and to smallcameras. Then, the total price is automatically calculated by the cart. Finally, it also has a marketing role as it suggests other items to make a recipe or indicate special offers. Once you are done, you can pay directly on the cart, so as not to queue up.
Canada is indeed very innovative concerning carts ! A few weeks ago, we talked about IGA stores. IGA has developped “love carts”. Single people can choose a cart with a flag saying they are willing to discuss with other people, so as to meet people. On a different note, Kroger, an American retailer, is testing smart cameras. The aim is to display ads with an accuracy never reached before.
